Comedy Central will be picking up 26 new episodes of Futurama, marking the second time that the plucky little fan-favorite about a 20th century pizza delivery boy thrust into the year 3000 has been clutched from the jaws of cancellation.

The show’s first resurrection came courtesy of four “movies” released direct to DVD and then later cut into four chunks for Comedy Central. The Comedy Central gig came about as a result of excellent DVD sales and incredible ratings in syndication on the Cartoon Network’s late night Adult Swim lineup.

I’m looking forward to this new run of episodes. The direct to DVD offerings ran the range from blatant pandering to the fans to sublime genius, but ultimately they suffered due to the necessity of trying to craft a narrative that functioned both as a complete film and a four episode ready-for-television story arc. Here’s hoping that a return to a true episodic format will give the Futurama team the breathing room they need to return to the show’s former glory.

The Behemoth

I swear, my television doesn’t belong in the special needs class! It can keep up, I promise.

I just spent an hour at a friends’ place, basking in the welcoming aura of a 52 inch High Definition LCD television. An hour of staring at a piece of technology that I could only describe as “God-like”. Almost as if this television represented the warmth and crystal clarity of the creator himself.

I can’t really describe the feeling of knowing that the television I recently upgraded to is far more inadequate than I thought. “Sure, it has a VCR player built in to it,” I thought to myself, “But it’s bigger’n my last one, so it’s all good.

Not so. Now every time I look at it it’s like staring at your hopelessly ugly offspring and telling it “You’re the prettiest kid at school.”
