While sitting with my team in the Gears 2 matchmaking screen, we were conversing on why matchmaking seemed to take so long. Having just come out of two quick matches, I was left with what I thought was the answer.

It’s obvious,” I said with authority. “Matchmaking is controlled by a giant switchboard, like old style phones used to use. After seeing how awesome we did in those last two matches, the operator is sitting there with the plug for our team and pondering who to pit us against.

A very probable theory, in my own esteemed opinion.

One of my team members (Vandias) has his own theory.

I think the operator is actually on the phone with Epic Games right now. “Cliffy B. — assemble The B-Team.” We better watch out, The B-Team totally consists of Cliffy B., Batman, The Kid Who Killed his Mom over Halo 3, Miyamoto, and Agumon.

Giving that some thought… it seems equally as probable.

Or Not.

On January 27th something changed on the Xbox.com Marketplace, letting anybody hop on and queue a download for a Gears of War 2 Gold Lancer to their system — absolutely free. Don’t get excited, though. Microsoft quickly moved on this, saying:

We’re currently attempting a fix that will expire all codes that were unexpectedly released in error through Xbox LIVE Marketplace…

Now, I’m not a programmer or a coder or whatever you would be to program functions and downloads into the Marketplace. But how exactly could you mess something like that up? Wouldn’t you have to specifically create a new download for the specific game, and then the specific item, and then activate it on the Marketplace?

Seems like an awful lot of work for it to be a mistake. I assume they just caught a day of backlash from people who bought a new copy of the game, who have already lost their exclusive Flashback Map Pack and were about to blow over losing their exclusive Gold Lancer.

Sincerely Yours,

Canada
