It’s Monday, which means that it’s time to head back to work after a weekend of grinding dungeons and battlegrounds. Today we have a supersized edition of the Morning Blues covering everything interesting that a Blizzard community rep said over the weekend!
January 30, 2010:
1. Why does Blizz hate 10 man guilds?
This is a repeat from January 29, but Crygil has added some new information about Blizzard’s design philosophy and potential tiered versions of Invincible that might be of interest.
January 29, 2010:
1. More patchwerk-like fights please
Short answer? Not happening.
2. New Account Security Awareness Page
Blizzard wants you to know that they’ve launched a new page with tips and tricks for keeping your account out of hackers’ greedy hands.
3. Bad trinkets – intentional?
Bornakk has a response here to a player complaining about the lack of good trinkets in game. Basically they see trinkets as a throwback to the old days of raiding when everyone got an item based on random drops from a mob’s loot table as opposed to the current system where everyone gets tokens and a chance to get the gear they want. Almost everyone can get the first few tiers of gear with a minimal amount of effort, but random trinkets from tough dungeons can still be used as a badge of honor for the truly hardcore. The full version is an interesting read, and you should click over and check it out.
4. Design Intentions for DKs in Arena?
This thread started out as a QQ thread for Death Knights upset about changes to their ranged abilities. The really interesting bit is that Ghostcrawler drops in to vent some justified frustration at the community. I agree with everything that he says, reposted here to save you the trouble of clicking through:
I know you guys can get into the mode of really, really, really wanting your issue addressed. But posts like this aren’t going to do it. Believe me, if we had something to say on a topic, we would say it. Trying to guess at our position because of the topics we do or don’t respond to isn’t going to be very effective.
We don’t intend for these forums to be the primary way the team communicates our vision for the game and upcoming changes to the community. You’ll get a little of that on a few select subjects through the forums and sadly that’s all you’re ever going to get. It’s not that we don’t care. It’s that forums are not a great medium for that kind of mass communication. I wish sometimes you guys could be satisfied with the fact that we used to not communicate at all and now are able to communicate a little.
5. Should we be excited for Cataclysm?
This post sheds some light on the upcoming changes to the talent trees in Cataclysm. The original poster has made a general purpose QQ for all the world to see, but Ghostcrawler stopped by to point out that there would be sweeping changes to talents even though they weren’t creating new talents. They’ll be taking an opportunity in Cataclysm to tweak underperforming talent trees as well as giving players an opportunity to play with things a bit by allowing players to hit 51/21.
Another important tidbit is that old raid instances being revamped for Cataclysm will actually be totally new and rebuilt from the ground up rather than being rehashes of old content.
6. Why does Blizz hate 10 man guilds?
Blizzard doesn’t hate 10-man guilds. They also only want Invincible the horse to only be available 25-man raiding guilds so that a unique and difficult to obtain item is… unique and difficult to obtain.
Blizzard doesn’t want you to buy gold. Obviously. They’ve also put together a website telling you exactly why it’s a bad idea to buy gold.
