Back in March of 2008 I decided to buy myself an early birthday present in the form of a widescreen compatible Wacom Intuos3 graphics tablet. The thing wasn’t cheap, but at the time I had myself convinced that the piss poor Questionable Content knockoff webcomic that lived at this domain was worth a little splurging on a larger tablet.
The comic wasn’t really worth the investment, but I love the tablet nonetheless and never use Photoshop without it.
I just had one little problem with the table that was shipped to me. The stylus would lose signal every once in awhile and either stop working or jump across the screen. When it stopped working I had to reboot the computer, and when it jumped I had to go back and redo whatever line I’d been working on. Either way it was a major annoyance. Luckily at the time I had another Wacom stylus from my smaller Intuos3 that worked just fine, so I tossed the new stylus in a drawer and didn’t think anything of it for the next year.
What happened a year later, you might ask? After two moves I managed to lose my old stylus. It eventually turned up at the bottom of a pile of junk in an old backpack about a month after the fact, but in the meantime I was stuck in the lurch with no stylus.
It had been a year since I bought the thing, and the original receipt and packing slip had been lost over the course of two moves anyways. So I had no proof that I’d bought it a year ago and wasn’t sure if it was even under warranty. But I decided “nothing ventured, nothing gained” and called Wacom anyways not expecting much.
I was pleasantly surprised when I got on the line with a human almost immediately. I explained the problem I’d been having and the tech on the other end was able to diagnose it. I gave him the serial number on the pen and the serial number on the tablet and presto, they mailed me a brand new stylus along with instructions and postage for mailing back the defective part.
So kudos to Wacom for their excellent customer service. I was already sold on them thanks to the quality of their tablets, but now I’m a customer for life thanks to their great response.
