Concept Art: Jen

I’m going to put up some filler work until the end of July just to let you guys know that I’m still alive. Some of it is concept art for the characters that I did back last November and others will just be stuff from my sketchbook or work I did when I was learning to draw.

Jen is the one character who hasn’t changed much from the original concept to the current comic. The biggest problem was that I needed to re-learn how to draw women after going a few months between concept art and and actually drawing the comic. She’ll definitely be playing a larger role in the comic in the future, but for now she’s just the hot barkeep put on earth to taunt Eric.

School is going well so far. Cataloging involves a lot of memorization and busy work, but it’s something that has to be learned if you want an MLS. Ironically enough the entire MARC language that is used to transfer catalog records from old fashioned cards to computers is probably on the way out after being the dominant way to computerize records since the 60s. I imagine everything that I’m learning about that will be replaced by XML and newer stuff in the next decade, if not sooner, though Library Science is a field where institutional and historical inertia tends to keep some practices in place long after those practices have outlived their utility.

Library History is also a fascinating class, but I love anything to do with history.
