The Racketeer

Please note that I do not in any way condone or support the scalping of Wii systems. Although I do think that people who willingly pay double or triple the price of a console rather than waiting and looking around to find a system on store shelves pretty much deserve what they get.

Has anyone out there ever heard of Bill Bryson? If you like reading then I can guarantee that you’ll enjoy his books. He makes any subject he writes about interesting just through the sheer genius of his writing. You might not think you’ll like a book about the history of the English language or a hiking trip along the Appalachian trail, but Bryson makes the seemingly mundane fascinating. I’ve been reading through a short biography of Shakespeare that he wrote. Now granted that sort of thing is up my alley as an English graduate, but I’d still highly recommend that you pick up one of his books if you enjoy reading at all.

I also got around to watching The Descent over the weekend. I didn’t catch it in the theaters and I’m not a huge fan of renting, but Comcast’s (ugh) On Demand service came to my rescue. I’d have to say that the movie is easily one of the best horror films of the past decade. The whole premise of being stranded in a hostile cave is scary enough without throwing in cannibalistic underdwelling humanoids that look and act like Gollum on steroids. If you like a good scare then pick it up. The film should be required viewing for anyone who considers themselves a horror buff.

I’ve updated The Story So Far to recount most of the last story arc. I’ll try to continue updating that as new stories are completed so that new and old readers won’t have to necessarily go through the entire archive to be up to speed.

That’s it for today’s update. See you all back here on Wednesday!
