Mario Galaxy 2001

Welcome to Insert Credits!  The title of the comic reflects a bit of a generational divide.  I understand that arcade machines used to ask you to just insert a credit, but by the time I was old enough to catch the tail end of the arcade boom inflation and vendor greed had caught up with the industry and you needed at least two quarters to play anything.  They’re two words that showed up a lot when my friends and I were growing up, so it seemed like a natural name for a comic about a bunch of people with slightly nerdy tendencies hanging out and living life.

Of course the first comic is nothing of the sort.  This is just an idea that amused me.  I hope to update three or four times a week with the regular comic, and then throw in stuff like this on Fridays and Saturdays when I have an extra idea.  This’ll likely be a placeholder for awhile while I work up a buffer, but I wanted to toss something up instead of having a blank site with a blank image sitting on the front page.

From the first days in elementary school when I cracked open legendary comics like The Far Side and Calvin & Hobbes, I’ve wanted to do a comic of my own.  The first problem there was that it seemed impossible to get into one of the Syndicates, and the whole career seemed to be more about luck than skill the more I read about it.  Now we have the Internet where anyone can put up their material and sink and swim based on their own merit (and a little bit of luck is still involved).

The second problem was that I couldn’t draw all that well.  You could probably make the argument judging from the comic above that I still have a long way to go, and I would probably agree with you.  But I’ve been working hours nightly for the past half a year before deciding to put something up, and I plan on keeping at it.
